Efren Gonzalez, MD is the Director of Ocular Oncology at Harvard’s Boston Children’s Hospital, where he sees pediatric ophthalmology, retina and ocular oncology patients. Dr. Gonzalez will see retina patients and patients with ocular tumors at our Brookline Lawrence and Wellesley locations, assuming the care of patients of Dr. Tatsuo Hirose as well as Dr. Kameran Lashkari, who recently retired from his practice in Boston and moved to southern Massachusetts.
Dr. Gonzalez, originally from Mexico, graduated from Universidad Autonoma de Nuevo Leon (UANL) with his M.D. He went on to complete three clinical fellowships: Vitreoretinal Surgery at the Valley Retina Institute in Texas, Ocular Oncology at the Princess Margaret Cancer Center and Hospital for Sick kids in Canada, and Pediatric Ophthalmology and Strabismus in Boston Children’s Hospital, Harvard University. Dr. Gonzales completed his ophthalmology residency at Boston University.
His main areas of interest in retina are diabetic retinopathy, macular degeneration and macular surgery. Dr. Gonzalez is fluent in English, Spanish and Italian.
